30 Things to Pray about for Missionaries
DAY 19: SELF-PITY
More than fear, what was responsible for Elijah abandoning his post and ministry, and fleeing into the wilderness was self-pity, see 1 Kings 19 verses 4 and 14: “It is enough! Now Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers.” There is a parlance known as “missionary burn-out” in missions circles. It refers to the increased susceptibility to fail in ministry as a result of stress and pressure. Self-pity also arises from missionary burn out, when a missionary has not taken enough time to rest.
- Come against the spirit of self-pity among missionaries. Pray that none will yield to this spirit and abandon the ministry like Elijah did.
- Ask for rest and refreshing for missionaries, through retreats, leaves, and furlough.
- Ask for a spirit of encouragement for them.
