With nearly 200 dynamic youths enthusiastically participating in this four-day residential extravaganza, YES 2023 transcended denominational boundaries, drawing youth from more than 40 Churches.

In a remarkable celebration of youthful spirit and empowerment, the Youth Empowerment Summit (YES) Camp, hosted by CMF Gambia in partnership with various ministries, unfolded at the scenic Abba Bilingual Academy, nestled along the Brusubi – Sukuta Highway. Despite the unforeseen shift in school schedules, YES 2023, now in its 11th edition, emerged triumphant, running from August 2nd to 5th, 2023.

With nearly 200 dynamic youths enthusiastically participating in this four-day residential extravaganza, YES 2023 transcended denominational boundaries, drawing youth from more than 40 Churches. The guiding theme for this year’s YES camp was “Focus on The Champion,” inspired by Hebrews 12:2: “…keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.” (NLT)

YES Camp’s mission, as always, aimed for holistic growth, empowering young individuals for success in all facets of life. The diverse program featured engaging Bible Study sessions centred around the theme, spirited Plenary presentations on spiritual discipleship and purpose, thoughtful discussions on academic pursuits and career choices, as well as discourse on morality, sexual purity, and the quest for life partners. The schedule also encompassed exhilarating sports events, moments of worship, and deep prayer experiences. Notably, a half-day dedicated to fasting and Holy Spirit empowerment ignited the spiritual dimension, alongside stimulating conversations about missions and global impact.

During the camp, the attendees were divided into five platoons, each formed through random selection. These platoons fostered camaraderie and competition in various domains, including sports, creative group presentations encompassing songs, drama, and quizzes. The atmosphere at YES Camp, characterised by youthful energy and spirituality, consistently leaves a lasting impact.

The camp commenced on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, with an uplifting session of fellowship, praise, and worship. Attendees were also briefed on how to maximise their YES Camp experience. The second day kicked off with a refreshing early-morning trek, followed by individual quiet time and a Plenary message on “The real champion.” The day continued with the first Bible study, titled “Who is the Champion?” and an opportunity to learn worship songs. The afternoon was devoted to two symposia: one focused on Academic Excellence and Career Choices, while the other delved into Purity, Morality, Relationships, and Purpose. A film screening rounded off the day.

On the third day, corporate devotion within the dormitories and physical exercises set the tone. This day was dedicated to half-day prayer and fasting, with a special emphasis on the Holy Spirit’s role. The first plenary message, “Lord make me a champion,” led to a prayer session for the fullness of the Holy Spirit, followed by personal fellowship with God. The fast concluded around 2 pm, giving way to practical workshops covering skills such as knitting, baking, media tips/photography, and music. The evening witnessed the thrilling finals of the inter-platoon sports events, culminating in an evening plenary session.

The fourth and final day of YES 2023 was equally packed. It commenced with a plenary talk on “the disciplines of the Champion,” followed by the third Bible Study and the Purity pledge. The afternoon saw the culmination of inter-platoon activities, including drama skits, theme-based songs, and a quiz. Judges diligently tallied sports scores, camp discipline marks, and event performance to determine the deserving champions. The camp culminated in a joyful celebration and photo sessions, encapsulating the essence of YES 2023.

YES 2023 delivered excitement and left an indelible impact on its youthful participants, a testament to the power of empowerment. Gratitude is extended to friends and dedicated ministers whose support through prayer, contributions, and volunteering made this transformational experience possible. As YES 2023 fades into cherished memories, our gaze turns toward the promise of YES 2024, God willing.
